FAQS

How often will I need therapy and for how long?

It will really depend on you and what you are wanting to achieve. Initially, our sessions will be weekly and this type of therapy works best in the medium to long term, however it is always your decision as to how many sessions you need.

How long does each session last and what will it cost?

Each session is 50 minutes and will cost £50 per session. Your 30-minute introduction session is free of charge.

What do you mean by confidential?

Everything you share in our sessions together is completely confidential. I work in a space where I can’t be overheard (and I ask that you can ensure the same). I do though have a legal responsibility for the safety of you and others and may need to share relevant information. We will discuss and agree how we work together in our first session.

Do you offer face to face counselling?

I believe that Living CALM online counselling gives people so much more choice and flexibility. You can access counselling from the comfort of your own home, or wherever you can find a private space, at your convenience. Online (or telephone) counselling has been shown to be just as effective as face to face and for many people is a much better option.

I’ve not had counselling before, what happens in a session?

It is your time to talk about whatever you want to, for me to understand what it’s like to be you. Sometimes there is more in what isn’t said or how you say it that can be worth exploring. I’m here to really listen to you, without judgement or advice but to help you to discover what you really want and need.

What if I decide it’s not for me?

There are many different counselling modalities, just as there are many different counsellors. Our relationship underpins our work together, so if you’re not comfortable with me or my approach, then it’s important that you talk to me about it. I can then direct you to others who might be a better fit.

Can I call you between sessions?

In our first session we will discuss and agree our terms of working together (our ‘boundaries’). It’s important that we negotiate these terms together and that will include contact outside of sessions.

If you can’t make an agreed session, then I’d ask that you let me know by phone or email at least 24 hours before so that we can re-arrange your session.

What is meant by the ‘counselling contract’?

As each client is a unique individual, so are their sessions. So, by discussing and agreeing the terms of working together; the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship. The contract is then signed by both the counsellor and the client as a commitment to the working relationship. Of course, you are free to end your counselling sessions at any point should you so wish.
